A Road Map for Export Success

A Road Map for Export Success

Here is a simple road map for your company's export success.

  1. Know yourself. Have a vision.
  2. Set your company values with participation and contributions of all your team. Write them down and declare publicly that all your actions will be in accordance with your core values.
  3. Define your company goals and dare to set them high. Invite your team into goal setting process.
  4. Create a company culture in which leaders can be flourished and people can work happily and effectively.
  5. Care your employees.
  6. Improve and harmonize marketing materials and tools such as logo, catalogue, website, business cards, presentations, etc.
  7. Invest in online marketing.
  8. Know your customers; not just their names but also their problems, their frustrations, their expectations, etc.
  9. Know about your competitors, their products/services, their technology, their price, etc. Appreciate if they do something better than you do.
  10. Think about how you could improve your products or services. Invest in R&D, design and product development.
  11. To be able to prioritize your jobs and efforts in marketing, it might be better to define your target markets, however without neglecting the fact that actually the world is the market.
  12. Avoid fierce competition in any market. Find markets or market segments with weak or no competition. In other words, look at where nobody looks. Go where nobody goes. Opportunity lay down there.
  13. Find a lot of potential customers. Read How to Find International Customers
  14. If you are dealing with distributors, make sure that they are competent to carry out the work.
  15. Have representatives or agents in distant markets; establish partnership with them. You can't go far alone.
  16. Do not underestimate the value of small customers. In many cases, having 10 small customers is better than having a big one.
  17. In your meetings, always show your enthusiasm about your company and your products, but never seem to be desperate to sell.
  18. Tell your company people what you are doing in international markets. Keep them informed about what you are working on and ask their prayer for good luck.
  19. Give unconditional friendship and respect to people you communicate with. It is not all about business.
  20. Don't forget to have fun.
